Frequently Asked
Questions
-
How is Club 42 different from after school programs or classes?Club 42 is not just a place to take a class or do homework. We walk students through methods that work specifically for how their brain processes and organizes. Confidence increases as students realize they have the power to positively impact their learning. We keep our student to staff ratios small to provide more personalized support than other programs. We target a maximum ratio of 10:1, Teacher to Student. We build our programming around our student’s interests and needs and parent input.
-
Should I enroll my child if he struggles to complete assignments, stay focused or get anything done unless I am sitting next to him?Yes! This is one of the most common challenges as students often become dependent on parent assistance. There are often motivational factors at play that are not easily detected. We have a method to help students regain their independence and take pride in completing assignments.
-
What if my child struggles with reading, writing, math or has an IEP?Club 42 strives to be an environment where every child can build skills and confidence. During your consultation call with one of our Directors, we will assess any potential advantages and limitations to your child participating. We will not require the IEP as we want students to have a clean slate when they start. If your child is a struggling reader, a simple assessment at the beginning of the program will help determine what supports will be used. Staff will notify parents of any concerns with a child’s academic or behavioral performance.
-
What if my child is high achieving?Club 42 strives to provide interesting content for students at all levels. Our small sizes allow collaboration with all students learning to participate in a learning community. In addition, the organizational skills in the Learning Lab prepare students for all levels of school and beyond.
-
Why does Club 42 have a no cell phone/personal electronics policy? This policy will allow us to best maintain a positive learning environment for all students. Cell Phone distraction and addiction is one of the most common and detrimental challenges facing our youth. (and adults!) Information and stimuli come at us from every angle, and figuring out what’s worth paying attention to requires a lot of time and discipline. Our students need to develop the ability to focus for sustained periods of time to prepare for future personal and professional demands. They need to learn that their attention is a commodity worth protecting and that they CAN succeed. Students must learn how to think critically to succeed at learning and life. They can’t develop critical thinking if their thoughts are constantly interrupted.
